I’ve just finished reading Brian Barrett’s Beat Your Sweating Demons, and I felt myself compelled to write a review. I’m not going to say that it’s a stunning book, but it’s a good book. It gives details about the author’s struggle with sweating problems, but not so much that you feel you’re just reading an autobiography. Brian not only delves into remedies that he has tried, but also give the reader information of what could be causing their armpit sweat and what type of sweating they might be suffering from. Unlike a lot of other books, he doesn’t limit the therapies to just one body part.
One thing that I really like about this book is that the steps outlined are very simple; so simple in fact that you’ll be wondering how come you never thought of it yourself. The answer itself is rudimentary. We’ve been conditioned to believe that there’s a pill or a procedure for everything so that we can avoid actually having to make an effort. That’s the beauty of this book. It reminds us that, by just changing our lifestyle and using a few inexpensive products, we can also beat our sweating problems.
Some books, especially those within the health genre, tend to go into so much medical detail that it defeats the purpose of getting the book in the first place: to find a remedy for the condition. Brian does a good job of breaking things down so that, no matter what one’s educational background, it’s easy to understand.
Beat Your Sweating Demons isn’t very long, only a few pages in fact. Some may argue that the author could have included additional information, and he very well could have. However, at the very beginning, he states that this is meant to outline his own struggles with armpit sweat and what he finally did to overcome his sweating problems. As such I don’t see that there was any need to go on and on about information that wasn’t relevant to him.
Overall, I do like the book. There are many books on sweating problems which really serve no purpose other than to showcase the author’s ability to add links. This isn’t the case here. You can clearly see that this isn’t some marketing ploy aimed at making you buy some unknown product which undoubtedly doesn’t work. The remedies presented in Beat Your Sweating Demons are sensible, if you really stop to think about it and you’re not expecting a miracle cure for armpit sweat.
